IN A GREAT HOUSE…
In a great house there are not only vessels of Gold and silver but also of wood and earthen ware, and some for noble use and some for ignoble. If any one purifies himself from what is ignoble, then he will be a vessel for NOBLE use, consecrated and useful to the master of the house ready for ANY GOOD WORK
- To promote noble characters in widows, missionaries, orphans, single girls, and the less privileged through evangelism and teachings.
- To promote spiritual growth through hosting of Christian conferences, seminars, intercessory prayer, discipleship, and retreats
- To encourage empowerment and self-sufficiency through sensitization and training on small-scale business enterprises
- Establish widows groups and raise material and financial support for them from time to time to encourage them
The Noble Home Ministry (NBHM) was established in 1997 by Mr. and Mrs. Mabur at the Sheda Abuja Gwagwalada Area Council. It first started as a family focused concern to establish Godly standard in Christian homes that are decaying by the. At that initial point, meetings and programs were centered on the following;
HOW NOBLE HOMES STARTED
The Noble Homes Ministry (NBHM) was established in 1997 by Mr. and Mrs. Mosses Mabur at Sheda Abuja Gwagwalada Area Council. It first started as a family focused concern to establish Godly standards in Christian homes, which from indications were decaying by the day. At that initial point, meetings and programs were centred on couples with about four families being its springboard namely;
- Mr &Mrs.AsabeTseda
- Mr & Mrs. Helen Gugong
- Mr & Mrs.MagerateAjamok
- Mr & Mrs. Mary M Mabur
The focus was for the following:
- To expose women to Biblical principles of submission to their husbands and God Almighty.
- To encourage women to avail themselves unto God to make them Noble vessels by the strength of his word.
- To equip women to become noble vessels in their homes, churches, communities and society.
Meetings were held fortnightly and rotated between venues at different locations. Three years later the lord broadened the vision to include widows, orphans, missionaries, single sisters and the less privileged:
- To stand in the gap in intercessory prayer for the home, church, the nation and the whole world through conferences and camp meetings.
- To restore hope to the hopeless and peace for those troubled e.g. widows orphans, the less privileged, divorcees and those living with HIV/AIDS.
- To train the singles especially girls to keep themselves holy before marriage, encourage and help the orphans both spiritually, materially and financially to cope with the challenges of life.
- To hold crusades, camp, meeting gatherings, conventions, fellowships, conferences and any other meeting related to the main objective and to also establish rehabilitation centre’s and schools for the effective training of missionaries, church workers and converts.
STRATEGIC PLAN FOR THE YEAR 2015-2020
Ideas and plans to be translated into practical actions and appropriate steps taken to ensure a step-by-step implementation of the plans for the effective results were conceived in February 2015:
- Through the noble home multipurpose cooperative, more regular savings from members will be encouraged. The cooperative will also be repositioned to serve as an avenue to solicit for short-term business and low-interest loans from ECWA Micro Finance.
- The noble homes are opening up for a partnership with individuals and corporate organizations that have the passion to invest in the empowerment of widows and the less privileged. It took us a long time (more than 13 years) to open up this widow because of the wrong notion society has placed on partnership initiatives. We equally did not want our priorities to be wrongly set from the roots.
- The noble homes are looking for land large enough to serve multipurpose functions for children’s schools and a commercial center for widows. There is also a plan for a prayer retreat ground to be established within these two major initiatives. The Lord does his things the way he chooses to do it and he can use anybody to do the work.
- A temporary school for widows has commenced at the ECWA Goodness P.W Kubwa Abuja. The classes will be miniaturized in the first instance to cater for areas such as catering, knitting, and soup making. As space becomes more available, more activities will be instantiated especially at the permanent site.
- Advocacy for widows. Based on the challenges widows and their children go through in the hands of in-laws or members of the society, Noble Homes will stand for widows who are unjustifiably treated until they have fair share of entitlements or even right to live.
REGISTRATION OF NOBLE HOMES MINISTRY
The ministry was formerly registered with the corporate affairs commission on July 8th 2005 as a non-profit; faith-based interdenominational Non-governmental organization (NGO). Reg. No CAC /IT/NO/18942. It is also registered with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs of Nigeria due to its women focused outlook and in view of the vulnerable nature of its target group which falls under the purview of that Ministry as an agency of government.
The administrative operations of the ministry are guided by a constitution, a five-man trustee, a five-man board with a full complement of executives.

CAPACITY ENHANCEMENT OF NATIONAL COORDINATOR
When we saw the enormous demand this ministry will elicit from us, it dawned on us to initiate a deliberate action for capacity building.
Consequently we resolved that Mary (Coordinator ) on whose shoulders the burden rested, to withdraw from secular employment at the Gwagwalada specialist hospital, now, university of Abuja teaching hospital in 2003.
Furthermore we agreed that she should pursue BA ED theology at the ECWA Theological seminary (JETS) Jos to enable her improve on her capacity to handle the challenges of the ministry properly. It was such a difficult decision but we stood alone to take it because many, including our friends, thought this was an unwise decision considering the challenges of raising children. Today we can testify that we took a very good decision. This is because after the first degree Mary proceeded to Igbaja ECWA Theological Seminary where she backed MSC Theology in Education in year 2014.
STATISTICS OF WIDOWS GROUPS
Since inception a total of six widows groups have been constituted and are being coordinated by the noble homes on a scheduled work plan. They are as follows;
- Nok widows group (kwoi Kaduna state) 265 members- meets quarterly
- Bokkos widows group (plateau state) 456 members-meets annually
- Barkin ladi widows group( plateau state) 176 members- meets annually
- Kwaturu widows group (Kaduna state) 105 members meets Annually
- Karara widows group (Nasarawa state) 25 members meets annually
- Abuja widows group (Kubwa FCT) 85 members – Hold monthly meetings.
FUNDING/ASSISTANCE/COLLABORATION
The Noble homes have not been able to initiate an established funding plan. Accordingly, meetings and programs are planned and executed through collaboration and assistance from members and the generosity of friends who willingly give for that purpose. Furthermore, the ministry has been slow in pushing for supporters and sponsors in view of the fear and mistrust created by several operators of NGOs in operation. The credibility of most NGOs is at stake because the issue of money appears to be their overriding objective.
However, we are carefully working out plans that will guide our steps in that direction in order not to fall into the same mistakes others have and which led to the collapse of their mandates. At the moment therefore we encourage the widows to, first of all, be creative and God fearing and then all other things shall follow. This initiative is helping the ministry to produce credible and reliable women who have learned to understand how to work with the God of provision than to work because of the provisions of God.
EMPOWERMENT AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION INITIATIVE
We have many more widows who are very young and have potential for growth. A number of them have indicated their interests in that direction. Based on this and part of our mandate of setting up a commercial center, we are trusting God to provide us with a space where we could set up a commercial center to cater to the multipurpose aspirations of these young widows so that it will serve as an avenue for training in:
Tailoring, knitting, catering, computer, adult education, soap making, bead making, weaving, and so on. There are professionals who are members of the fellowship that is willing to teach them at no cost. We trust God daily that He who has called us into this ministry is faithful to raise supporters. At the end of the year 2010 we established contact with the Widows Institute of Zangon kataf, we collected some admission forms on behalf of 10 widows. The fees and another upkeep fund per student per session is N65, 000 x 2 years x 10 widows = N650, 000.00. When they finish this school they would have acquired the requisite skills that will make them self-employed or sufficient enough to cater to their recurrent needs and their children without much stress. Other empowerment areas in small-scale agricultural businesses namely snail farming, fishing, garri processing, akara making, pof-pof, moi-moi, kerosene selling.
BORE HOLE
At our last meeting of the Board of Directors in 2012, we observed that access to drinking water is a very relevant aspect of community life that will require attention. We observed that most of the communities that we have these widow groups have challenges accessing clean water. As a mark of concern and desire to positively affect lives, we agreed that if the ministry provides a bore hole in the name of the widows, they will be made to manage it by controlling its usage to avoid vandalisation. In the process they can create a purse in order to generate some money for their use or for small maintenance. With the cost of a good borehole ranging from N500,000, this is another cost-demanding project.
It was therefore resolved that the coordinator and the secretary should make inquiries with Organizations like Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Japanese High Commission and others who have related projects to solicit for assistance in that direction. If they are also led, they should contact other senior brethren who are financially blessed for their support.
Pure water business which is capable of giving the widows and their children employment can also thrive along with this initiative.
The report should be ready before the last meeting of this year which comes up in December 2011.
